Community Action Agencies

The Federal Governament gives Block Grats to states to provide safety net services to residents in local counties with limited resources. Community Action Agencies in each county serve as the umbrella organizations to disperse the services paid for by these grant monies. These services inclde progams for:

  • Headstart for Early Childhood, Adult Education, Literacy programs
  • Womens' Wellness Health Care (usually delivered through County Health Departments)
  • Weatherization Assistance and Utility Assistance, Emergency Food and Rental assistance, Section 8 Housing (HUD monies), Housing Rehab for owner owned properties
  • Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
  • Small Business Supports Community Development
  • Behavioral Health Services Access

How monies are dispersed can vary by county.

 

Individuals qualify by:

  • meeting 125% of Federal Poverty Guidelines (Proof of income or lack of income)
  • Picture I.D. for each person in household, birth certificate and Social Security Card
