Join our team of upbeat, big-hearted people who are dedicated to bringing peace to those with terminal illnesses. Our volunteers are welcomed as respected members of the care team, whether they have a desire to help in the office, help patients write letters, play cards/games, sing/read to them, or just offer a friendly ear. Our volunteers also provide bereavement support with phone calls/in-person visits or support group assistance. Whether they work "up close and personal", or prefer to stay behind the scenes, we are happy to work around our volunteers' schedules. Having the gift of foresight that the end of their life is near; many people can finally make sense of their life story. Peace can be made with people and circumstances that have had a profound impact on individuals. Many who are in the process of dying have a unique perspective on what it means to be alive. We want to help them find meaning in every moment that they still have. We take our mission seriously, but we also have fun while partnering with our patients and families on their journey. All needed training will be provided, and completion is required prior to beginning work as an SSM Hospice Volunteer.
