Archdiocesan Parish Listing, National Night of Prayer for Life, December 8

Other | November 20 2023

On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, St. Louis Catholics and those across the country are uniting for the National Night of Prayer for Life for the 34th consecutive year. Starting Friday evening, December 8 until the early morning hours of Saturday, December 9, parishes throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis will be praying for our "nation to renew its commitment to live the Gospel of Life." (Times and prayer format may vary per parish). Originating in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York in 1989, what started out as a local parish prayer initiative has now grown into a coast-to-coast event involving 700-plus parishes, Knights of Columbus chapters and other pro-life and Catholic organizations. The founders credit the intercession of Mary for its growth, specifically under her titles of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe. Concert of Negro Spirituals

St. Alphonsus Liguori (Rock) (St. Louis) | October 25 2023

Please join us for our annual Concert of Negro Spirituals at St. Alphonsus Liguori “Rock” Catholic Church on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. The Negro Spiritual is a genre of Christian music that is associated with African Americans, which merged sub-Saharan African cultural heritage with the experiences of being held in bondage in slavery. Spirituals encompass the "sing songs," work songs, and plantation songs that evolved into the gospel songs in church. While they were often rooted in biblical stories, they also described the extreme hardships endured by enslaved African Americans. We are excited to highlight these important works of art once again. This is a free event however, a ‘free will’ offering will be collected a portion of which will go to support the music program of Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School. Our theme this year is “Over my head I hear music in the air!”
