New SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital

SSM Health announced Sept. 28 the construction of a new Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital to replace its current location. The new hospital, expected to be completed in 2027, is planned to be a 14-story, 200+ bed facility at the corner of South Grand and Chouteau in midtown St. Louis, less than half a mile north on Grand Boulevard from the current hospital. It will include larger rooms to accommodate families and space for the complex equipment used in modern pediatric care. The current Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital opened in 1956.

Archbishop Mitchell T. Rozanski offered a prayer and blessing during the Sept. 28 news conference. “Heavenly Father, you endow us with intellect and knowledge so that we may better the lives of others. Thank you for bringing us to this day of discovery for this most necessary endeavor,” he said. “Inspire us always to seek the best for Your children, especially those who will enter the doors of this new hospital. Without You, we can do nothing, but with You, we can accomplish miracles far beyond our imagination.”

Naming & Commendation prayer service

A Naming & Commendation prayer service for families whose child died before birth for any reason (including miscarriage, accident, abortion or stillbirth) will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at St. Monica Parish, 12136 Olive Blvd. in Creve Coeur. The rite offers parents and families an opportunity to name the child, bring peaceful closure to great loss and unite with our merciful God. To RSVP or for more information, contact Diann Bomkamp at [email protected] or (314) 484-6121.

Choral event in Washington

St. Francis Borgia Parish in Washington is hosting a choral event with Orin Johnson at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20. The event will be held in the St. Francis Borgia Choir Room at Jesuit Hall, located at the corner of Main and Cedar streets in Washington. Johnson, who is director of music and liturgy at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in south St. Louis and assistant conductor of the St. Louis Chamber Chorus, will teach three of his published pieces to all interested singers in the area, with the intention of performing the songs at the Combined Christian Choir’s Thanksgiving concert on Sunday, Nov. 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington.

All interested singers are invited to attend the choral event with Johnson. There is no cost at attend, but a sheet music packet is available for $10 for those who wish to keep the music. For more information, contact Paige Byrne Shortal at (314) 583-1522 or [email protected].
