In memoriam

A memorial Mass for Liz Kosciolek was celebrated Jan. 23 at Christian Brothers College High School. Kosciolek, who died unexpectedly Jan. 17 while recovering from surgery, served as the primary contact for students and parents in the Office of the Dean of Students at CBC. She had worked at the school for more than 30 years. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Rich Kosciolek; two children, Anthony and Michael Kosciolek; one grandchild; and a sister, Sandra Schleper. The Liz Kosciolek CBC High School Scholarship Fund was established in her name. To donate, visit www.cbchs.org.

First Friday Series features the arts

Fine and Performing Arts chair and music professor Laura Franklin will be the featured speaker at the St. Louis University First Friday Mass and Speaker Series at noon Friday, Feb. 3 in Boileau Hall. 'Divest!' at film night

The Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help will feature the film "Divest!" at their Eco-Film Night at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the Franciscan Sisters, 335 S. Kirkwood Road in Kirkwood, and at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the De Soto Community Center, 400 Boyd St. in De Soto. The film chronicles 350.org's "Do the Math" bus tour as it launched a fossil fuel divestment campaign. The film is free, with complimentary Missouri-grown organic popcorn and organic hot apple cider served to guests. Msgr. Witt's new history book

The Daughters of St. Paul are hosting a book signing and talk by Msgr. Michael Witt, author of "Saint Louis: The Story of Catholic Evangelization of America's Heartland," at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Pauline Books and Media, 9804 Watson Road in Crestwood. Msgr. Witt will discuss and sign copies of Volume 2, "The Lion and the Fourth City," which shares a picture of St. Louis through the eyes of Archbishop Peter Richard Kenrick, the westward spread of Catholicism through the elevation of St. Louis as an archdiocese, outbreak of the Civil War and the World's Fair at the turn of the century.

Morning of recollection

The Order of Carmel Discalced Secular are sponsoring a morning of recollection with Father Randy Soto, professor of sacred Scripture-New Testament at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude following Mass at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the seminary, 5200 Glennon Drive in Shrewsbury. The program includes "Lectio Divina" on the Blessed Mother in Sacred Scripture. A free-will offering will be collected to support the seminary. Infertility Mass

The annual Mass for couples affected by infertility will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Cardinal Rigali Center, 20 Archbishop May Drive in Shrewsbury. A reception will follow to share in fellowship and receive resources on ways the Church helps couples with infertility. The event is sponsored by the Enkindle Infertility Support Ministry, a program of the archdiocesan Office of Natural Family Planning.

Men for Christ

The 10th Annual Catholic Men for Christ St. Louis Conference will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in Normandy. Life Teen Women's Retreat

A Life Teen Women's Retreat for women ages 18 and older will take place Feb. 24-26 at the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac. The theme of the retreat is "Unfinished" and will cover how women are on an unfinished journey in their relationship with Christ. Speakers include Father Christopher Martin, Kristy Allgeyer, Katie Gray, Sarah Houde, Tricia Tembreull and Michelle Fischer. Music will be led by Adam and Heather Bitter. Cost is $225. Serve with the Ursuline Sisters this summer

The Ursuline Sisters are hosting a week of volunteer service in San Antonio July 10-16, for women ages 18-30. Service will be at Haven for Hope with persons who are homeless; housing will be at Our Lady of the Lake University. There is no cost, except for transportation to and from San Antonio. Foundation volunteers

Volunteers are sought for events and community programs run by SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation, which raises money for children treated at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon. For example, volunteers work at a registration table, make calls at a phone bank, sell raffle tickets or man a mystery photo booth.
