Vicente Telles and Brandon Maldonado: Cuentos Nuevomexicanos

11:00 AM | 03/22/2023

MOCRA welcomes artists Vicente Telles and Brandon Maldonado in their new exhibition, “Cuentos Nuevomexicanos”. Telles and Maldonado are forging new links in the chain of the continuing story of the people of New Mexico. Telles is firmly rooted in the Santero tradition (the making of santos, or images of saints), while Maldonado describes his work as being heavily inspired by New Mexican folk art. Yet they see their work converging on the critical question: What can and should Santero art be now? Not content with reiterating the past, Telles and Maldonado passionately engage a living tradition to tell stories for our times.

The exhibition continues through May 21, 2023.

Relic of St. Louis King of France

| St. Ambrose (St. Louis)
8:30 AM | 03/24/2023

**Relic: Saint Louis IX, King of France: The Archdiocese of Saint Louis was gifted a beautiful and large relic of Saint Louis, King of France; this relic was at the Cathedral of Monreale in Sicily and was given to the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. Since this treasured gift was given by Sicily, Archbishop Rozanski felt that Saint Ambrose should be the first Church in St. Louis to allow people to venerate this relic. There will be large amounts of time for people to come and pray before the relic; Friday, March 24 from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25 from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 26 from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. A closing Mass at Saint Ambrose will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. by Bishop Mark Rivituso.

The relic will be placed in the sanctuary of Saint Ambrose Church bordered by 2 candles with a kneeler in front of the Communion Gates for people to kneel in prayer. There are so many people who have made it possible for the Archdiocese of Saint Louis to receive this relic. Saint Ambrose Catholic Church thanks everyone for all they have done to bring Saint Louis home to the city named in his honor!

FFE Eco-Series Film “The Letter”

6:30 PM | 04/11/2023

The documentary on the encyclical, Laudato Si’ by Pope Francis entitled The Letter, will be April’s free Franciscan for Earth Eco-Series event. A special viewing and discussion of the film will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 6:30 in the evening Central, via Zoom.

In October, YouTube Originals released this grand documentary telling the story of the encyclical letter and the unfolding ecological emergency. It’s the fruit of a few years of work of Laudato Si’ Movement in partnership with Off the Fence (Oscar-winning producers of My Octopus Teacher) and the Vatican.

Pope Francis is the film’s star, and he generously spent time during the production, sharing his deep wisdom. Other voices are also featured, representing the peripheries of the ecological crisis: a teenage youth activist from India, an indigenous leader from the Amazon, a climate refugee from Senegal, and scientists from Hawaii. Be touched by the prophetic stories of Ridhima, Chief Dada, Arouna, and Robin and Greg—all real-life heroes in and outside the film. Their in-person dialogue with the Pope was priceless.

As the film powerfully explains, “the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor are growing increasingly desperate. Droughts, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, deforestation—they all keep getting worse and worse.”

Franciscans For Earth is sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Their free, monthly, Eco-Film & Speaker Series was created to educate, advocate and collaborate on behalf of Our Common Home and all of its inhabitants.
