Good Shepherd Parish is seeking a part-time Coordinator of PSR. This role directs the parish school of religion in collaboration with the pastor and principal. The Coordinator will give a special emphasis to spiritual multiplication, and the formation of the catechists and students as practicing Catholics. This is accomplished through fostering an encounter with Jesus Christ in his Church and a flourishing life of discipleship, including knowledge of the Deposit of Faith, an active prayer life, engagement in the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, an appreciation of Church teaching on various social issues, and the ability to share the kerygma with others.
This position is a part-time “school year” position, approx. 13 hours a week. It will require some evening and weekend availability.
Lead Catechists & Aides
•Recruit catechist and aide for each classroom and provide initial and ongoing training
•Provide weekly faculty bulletin
•Maintain a plan for substitutes as needed
•Provide a skeletal lesson plan for each teacher and their grade level
Provide information to parish office:
•Personnel documents as required
•Schedule of PSR sessions and sacramental gatherings for space at parish
•Keep records of attendance, report cards, permanent records on each child/teen enrolled
•Meet regularly with pastor / principal
•Establish and Maintain communication with Area Director of this deanery
•Implement the archdiocesan guidelines regarding annual schedule of PSR sessions, curriculum, personnel requirements
•Participate in deanery education meetings.
•Collaborate with neighboring parishes for combined activity opportunities
•Provide training to catechists/aides and order supplies as needed
•Conduct registrations of new families and re-registration annually with returning families including health information and Parent Witness Statement
•Coordinate& plan meetings with Pastor, PSR and School personnel for joint celebration of sacraments of initiation and parental sacramental mtgs.
•Keep in contact concerning the schedule, celebrations, parent mtgs, cancellations, etc
•Assists the pastor / principal in engaging the parents in the broader life of the parish
•Serves as liaison between homeschooling families and the pastor for sacramental preparation
•Other duties as assigned by the pastor
Knowledge & Experience Requirements
The candidate is expected to have or obtain some Religious Education Training (such as through Paul VI). Preference is for a candidate to have a certificate as a coordinator of religious education or a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. The person is expected to have a strong conviction of the importance and value of collaborative ministry and is able to communicate and work effectively with all people. The PSR Coordinator is committed to fostering the personal and spiritual growth of our children and is willing to work flexible hours throughout the week and weekend to serve our parishioners and their children.
Canon Law 231 §1 states that “Lay persons who permanently or temporarily devote themselves to special service of the Church are obliged to acquire the appropriate formation required to fulfill their function properly and to carry out this function conscientiously, eagerly, and diligently.”

•Must have ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters, related to PSR, families and parish
•Experience supervising volunteers
•Ability to develop and administer a budget
•Computer proficiency to use current computer software, e-mail, and web browser programs
