As members of one body in Christ, we may be called on to suffer for others and sacrifice for their benefit
When Mary and Joseph find Jesus in the temple in St. Luke’s Gospel, it seems like Jesus is being disrespectful to them. How can I read this passage and see Jesus being respectful?
‘Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up a righteous shoot to David; … he shall do what is just and right in the land.’
“For thus says the Lord, ‘They shall eat and there shall be some left over.’”
For Catholics, the way forward is never far from the person and life of Jesus
Greater receptivity to the Holy Spirit is needed for us to follow Jesus’ example
“Jesus answered and said to them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in the one He sent.’”
‘Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from Him comes to me.’
‘I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts. I will be their God, and they shall be my people.’
‘Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.’
‘When the just cry out, the Lord hears them, and from all their distress He rescues them.’
Thus says the Lord: “Say to those whose hearts are frightened: ‘Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, He comes with vindication; with divine recompense He comes to save you.’”
“…He asked them, ‘What were you arguing about on the way?’ But they remained silent. They had been discussing among themselves on the way who was the greatest.”
‘Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Would that the Lord might bestow His spirit on them all!’
“(Jesus) ‘for a little while’ was made ‘lower than the angels,’ that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.”
