The Rosary is a Scripture-based prayer that focuses on the lives of Christ and Mary through meditation on the different mysteries. The repetition of prayers in the Rosary are meant to lead a person into restful and contemplative prayer related to each mystery.
St. John Paul II introduced the Luminous Mysteries in October 2002 at the start of the Year of the Rosary. These mysteries, which focus on the public ministry of Jesus Christ, traditionally are prayed on Thursdays:
The Baptism of Christ in the Jordan
“After Jesus was baptized, He came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened [for Him], and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove [and] coming upon Him. And a voice came from the heavens, saying, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’” - Matthew 3:16-17

The Wedding Feast at Cana
