OBITUARY | Father Richard J. Schilli

Fr. Schilli
A funeral Mass for Father Richard Schilli will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Our Lady of Providence Church, 8866 Pardee Road in Crestwood. Father Schilli died Jan. 21 at the age of 72.

Visitation for Father Schilli will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road in south St. Louis County.

Father Schilli was born on July 15, 1951, in St. Louis to Leonard and Mary Theresa (Finnegan) Schilli. He was baptized at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Louis.

Father Schilli attended St. Louis Preparatory-South, Cardinal Glennon College and Kenrick Seminary for his priestly formation. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 21, 1977, by Cardinal John J. Carberry at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis.

His first assignment after ordination was associate pastor at St. Angela Merici in Florissant. In 1980, he became part-time associate pastor at St. Martin de Porres in Hazelwood and was assigned to teach at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He continued to teach there for about 15 years, while also serving as a part-time associate pastor at St. Frances Cabrini in Jennings, Sacred Heart in Florissant and St. Aloysius in Spanish Lake.

In 1995, he was assigned to the faculty at Bishop DuBourg High School, while also serving as a part-time associate at Assumption in south St. Louis County. He was named pastor of Sts. John and James in Ferguson in 2002, and briefly served as parochial administrator of Good Shepherd in Ferguson. In 2005, he was named pastor of St. Mary Magdalen in St. Louis. He became pastor at Most Sacred Heart in Eureka in 2008, and in 2015 was named senior associate pastor at Mary Mother of the Church in south St. Louis County.

Father Schilli was named pastor of Our Lady of Providence in Crestwood in 2016, and in 2023, he became senior associate pastor of St. Mark Parish in Lemay.

Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
