OBITUARY | Father Robert C. Lane

A funeral Mass for Father Robert C. Lane was to have been celebrated Aug. 27 at All Saints Church in St. Peters. Father Lane died Aug. 21. He was 77 years old and a priest for 52 years.

Born in St. Louis on Sept. 17, 1943, to John and Rosemary (Peet) Lane, Father Lane attended St. Louis Preparatory Seminary-South, Cardinal Glennon College and Kenrick School of Theology, and Saint Louis University for divinity school. He was ordained at the St. Louis Cathedral on June 7, 1969, by Cardinal John J. Carberry.

After ordination, he was assigned as an associate pastor at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Florissant. He then served on the faculty at John F. Kennedy High School from 1976-84, while also serving as part-time associate pastor at Our Lady of Providence in Crestwood (1976-78) and later Sacred Heart in Valley Park (1978-84).

He was named to the faculty at St. Dominic High School in O’Fallon, where he served from 1984-2013. During that time, he was assigned as part-time associate pastor at St. Joseph in Cottleville (1984-95), All Saints in St. Peters (1995-99), and St. Barnabas in O’Fallon (2011-13). He retired in 2013.

Father Lane coached several sports, including varsity soccer at Kennedy High School; and baseball at St. Dominic. He also served as chaplain at Mount Carmel Senior Living in St. Charles, where he celebrated Mass several days a week and was on call for residents’ spiritual needs. In retirement, he also continued to help at St. Dominic with Masses and other activities.

Burial was to have taken place in Calvary Cemetery.
