In Partnership with the Augustine Institute
The Missionaries of Joy initiative is designed for key parish leaders who are ready to help their pastors cultivate a culture of evangelization, ensuring that their parish is well-equipped with missionary disciples who will help bring the Joy of the Gospel to their communities.
Empowering Lay Leaders to Renew Parish Life
Missionaries of Joy is a one-year Catholic formation initiative designed to ignite missionary discipleship in the Archdiocese of St. Louis by equipping local Catholics through theological and spiritual formation. Aligning with the Archbishop’s vision document “Disciples Make Disciples,” the program leverages a 12-course curriculum for theological formation from the Augustine Institute and integrates in-person evangelization training from the Office of Parish Mission and Vitality.
Missionaries of Joy takes its name from Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel), Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical that Archbishop Rozanski refers to as the “Magna Carta of Evangelization.” Inspired by this call to share the Gospel with joy and enthusiasm, this initiative seeks to equip laypeople with a strong foundation in theology and evangelization, enabling them to support their pastors in fostering a culture of evangelization within their parishes.
By forming Missionaries of Joy, we are answering Christ’s call to go forth and share the Gospel, ensuring that our parishes become beacons of faith, hope, and love in their communities.
