The Masterworks Chorale, with the Gateway Brass Quintet, presents its annual Christmas at the Cathedral, with the grandeur, pomp and majesty of the 17th-century Venetian basilica. Southern Illinois’ most beautiful holiday concert features a candlelight procession, favorite carols, and even an audience sing-along! The Masterworks Chorale will be joined by the Masterworks Children’s Chorus, all under the direction of Artistic Director Dr. Stephen Mager. Also participating will be Masterworks Assistant Conductor, Jeffrey Ballard, with a guest appearance by Organist of the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Mr. Richard Thompson. Musical selections will span the Renaissance to the 21st century. Another special feature will be the performance of original carol settings by Dr. Mager, whose music is published by Oxford University Press and Morning Star Music. This concert will take place on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at 7:30 pm at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Belleville (200 W. Harrison, Belleville, IL, 62220).Tickets are available at www.singmasterworks.org.

One of Southern Illinois’ finest performing organizations, the Masterworks Chorale was founded in 1974 by Dr. A.Dennis Sparger while a professor at Belleville Area College (now Southwestern Illinois College). Dedicated to excellence in choral music, the Chorale performs an annual concert series at venues throughout Metro East and Saint Louis. The Chorale also sponsors the Masterworks Children’s Chorus. Dr. Stephen Mager has served as the Masterworks Artistic Director and Conductor since 2009.
