Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help film discussion: 'Cooked: Survival by Zip Code'

7:00 PM | 09/15/2020

Watch free on-demand anytime Sept 8-15 via a link, then join in a Zoom discussion at 7pm on Tue, Sept 15.

The first 50 to register are invited to screen this searing investigation into the politics of “disaster” by way of the deadly 1995 Chicago heat wave, in which 739 residents — mostly elderly and black — died over the course of a week. Watch the 82-minute film at your convenience through the emailed link, then on Tues 9/15, simply log in through an email invitation to join our discussion via Zoom. This searing, smart, and insightful Judith Helfand film, recently released in the US, asks important questions with humility and humanity, and examines the underlying man-made disaster of structural racism. (Grade Level: 10-12th Grade, College & Adults.)
