St. Louis Review receives newspaper of the year recognition from Catholic Press Association

Review, Catholic St. Louis receive a combined 13 awards at virtual ceremony

The St. Louis Review and Catholic St. Louis received a combined 13 awards from the Catholic Press Association, announced July 2 at a virtual awards ceremony. The annual Catholic Media Conference, to be held this year in Portland, Oregon, was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The St. Louis Review received first place newspaper of the year for weekly diocesan newspapers with circulation over 25,001, the highest honor for newspapers in that category. The judges said that the paper has a “lively presentation. Standout photography Well-organized layout and presentation. Good writing …”

Lisa Johnston received a first-place award for photographer of the year. The judges said that her photos “capture a diversity of human and liturgical subjects that show an excellent eye for color and framing. What makes Lisa’s photography stand out from the other excellent submissions in this category is her consistent capacity for capturing diverse emotions in diverse circumstances: sorrow, happiness, pain, joy, visibly shared among people in diverse settings.”
