A funeral Mass for Loretto Sister Katherine Misbauer was celebrated Oct. 7 at the Church of the Seven Dolors on the grounds of Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx, Ky.
Sister Katherine, who served as assistant principal from 1970-74 and registrar from 1993-98 at Nerinx Hall High School in Webster Groves, died Oct. 1 at Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary. She was 78.
Born in St. Louis, she entered the Sisters of Loretto at the Foot of the Cross in 1955 after her graduation from Nerinx Hall. She was received into the Sisters of Loretto in 1956 and made first vows in 1958 and final vows in 1963. She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education, with minors in philosophy and social studies, in 1960 from Webster College (now University) in Webster Groves and a master's degree in Spanish in 1966 from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
Sister Katherine (formerly Sister M. Katrien, then Catherine Siena) taught in Kansas City, Mo., and in Illinois. In Kentucky, she was a high school principal, developed a Spanish curriculum for a grade school and was a member of a parish team. Sister Katherine served as Loretto's archivist from 1998-2010 at the Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx. She also served as an editor of Loretto's monthly newsletter and was coordinator of Loretto Convent in El Paso, Texas. She took part in the Community Extension Service through Notre Dame University in Cotabato City, Philippines, in 1976. Sister Katherine served as vice president, president and past president of the Archivists of Congregations of Women Religious. In 2010, she retired, residing at Loretto Motherhouse.
Survivors include her brothers Joseph J. Misbauer of Florissant and Michael Misbauer of Overland. Burial was in the Loretto Motherhouse Cemetery.
