A funeral Mass for Sister Andrea Marie Rentmeester, CSJ, was celebrated Jan. 3 at Nazareth Living Center Chapel. Sister Andrea Marie died Dec. 21 at Nazareth. She was 91 and a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 78 years.
Born Nov. 30, 1925, in Preble, Wis., Myrtle Agnes Rentmeester entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1943, received the name Sister Andrea Maria and professed first vows in 1946. She made final profession in 1949.
Sister Andrea Marie received a bachelor's degree in history from Loretto Heights College in Denver in 1955, and earned a master's in history from St. Louis University in 1963.
In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, she taught at St. Anthony of Padua Grade School, Nativity of Our Lord Grade School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. She served in a number of roles at the St. Joseph Provincial House: coordinator of pastoral ministry, publications assistant and ministry secretary. She also was president of the Archdiocesan Council of Women Religious.
In addition, she taught in Denver and Michigan, where she also served as a principal and an educational consultant for the Marquette Diocesan Office. She also served in ministry in Green Bay.
She retired in 2004 and served in a ministry of prayer and presence at Nazareth Living Center since 2005. Her cremains were buried at Resurrection Cemetery.
