Obituary | Sister Rose Marie Flamm, SSND

The funeral Mass for Sister Rose Marie Flamm was celebrated March 13 at the School Sisters of Notre Dame’s Theresa Center chapel in south St. Louis County. Sister Rose Marie died March 7 at Anna House in Bridgeton. She was 90, and a former teacher, assistant treasurer and finance staff member.

Born in Anna, Ill., she entered the congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1947, professed first vows in 1950 and final vows in 1956. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social science from the former Notre Dame College in St. Louis, and a master’s in elementary education from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.

Sister Rose Marie began her teaching ministry at Holy Angels in East St. Louis, Ill., then taught in Missouri at All Souls in Overland, Blessed Sacrament in Hannibal, St. Gabriel in St. Louis and St. Joseph in Scott City. She served as a teacher and principal in Illinois and also taught in Louisiana and Texas.

She served as an assistant treasurer for the Generalate in Rome and worked for the School Sisters of Notre Dame finance office in St. Louis. After years of community service at Sancta Maria in Ripa, she was missioned to Veronica House in October 2009, and was transferred to Anna House in May 2014.

Sister Rose Marie is survived by a brother, Raymond, of Cobden, Ill., and a cousin, Sister Nancy Flamm, SSND.
