A memorial Mass was to be celebrated for Father Richard F. Everding, a retired parish pastor, Dec. 10 at St. Joan of Arc Church in St. Louis. He died Dec. 2 at age 80.

Born in St. Louis, Father Everding attended St. Louis Preparatory Seminary, Cardinal Glennon College and Kenrick Seminary. He was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter in 1966 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis.

Father Everding’s first assignment was as assistant pastor at St. Sabina Parish in Florissant. He was appointed associate pastor of Visitation-Holy Ghost Parish in St. Louis in 1970, St. Gabriel Parish in St. Louis in 1972, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Parish in Oakville in 1979 and St. Richard Parish in Creve Coeur in 1984. He served as temporary administrator of St. Gabriel Parish in 1979. He was named pastor of Ste. Genevieve Parish in Ste. Genevieve in 1987, St. Paul Parish in Fenton in 1991 and Most Precious Blood Parish in Lemay in 2000.

Father Everding served as dean of the Ste. Genevieve Deanery in 1991 and was known as an excellent homilist.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Paul Everding. Father Everding donated his body to Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
