Obituary | Father Robert A. Marshall

Fr. Marshall
The funeral Mass for Father Robert A. Marshall was celebrated Oct. 3 at St. Angela Merici Church in Florissant. Father Marshall, a retired parish priest and hospital chaplain, died Sept. 28 at age 83.

Born in St. Louis, he attended Cardinal Glennon College and Kenrick Seminary and was ordained in 1961 by Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter at the then-Cathedral of Saint Louis.

Father Marshall’s first assignment was as associate pastor at St. Rose of Lima Parish in De Soto, serving there two years. He was named associate pastor of St. Mark Parish, St. Bridget Parish and St. Thomas of Aquin Parish, all in St. Louis, while serving as chaplain to Catholic patients at Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis. Except for a few months serving at St. Cletus Parish in St. Charles, he remained at St. Thomas of Aquin and as chaplain at Lutheran Hospital until 1976.

Father Marshall then was named associate pastor of St. Cronan Parish and later St. James Parish, both in south St. Louis, with full-time duty as chaplain at Deaconess Hospital. In 1980, he was named senior priest in service at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in St. Charles and in 1989 as senior priest at St. Angela Merici Parish in Florissant. In 1990, he was appointed senior priest at Immaculate Conception Parish in Union.

From 1992-97, Father Marshall served as administrator of Holy Martyrs of Japan Parish in Japan. He served as senior associate pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Valley Park from 1997-98 and St. Joseph Parish in Manchester, 1998-2002. After a year on sabbatical, with residence at Holy Innocents Parish in south St. Louis, he was named chaplain of Mother of Good Counsel Home in north St. Louis County. He moved to St. Agnes Home in Kirkwood in 2010.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
