General Overview:

Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and St. Francis Borgia Parish are seeking to hire a Youth Minister to continue developing the regional youth ministry program that serves the middle school and high school students in the Washington, Missouri community. This full-time position is aimed at fostering faith and community among youth by promoting, organizing, and coordinating dynamic youth activities in the area. Candidates should be able to work with a variety of staff and parishioners at both parishes to create a program that inspires not only the youth but the community as a whole. This role will require an engaging and enthusiastic love of the Faith, a solid understanding of Catholic doctrine, and a vision for leading teens to Christ.

Duties and Responsibilities


Pastoral Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the youth, parents, pastors, associate pastors, and parish staffs to maintain and grow the regional youth ministry program
  • Collaborate with the Archdiocesan Youth Office to maintain an awareness of Archdiocesan resources, programs, and guidelines
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education programs
  • Work with the local grade schools, high schools, and PSR communities to reach out to and invite high school and middle school students to faith events
  • Lead events for area youth. The current role includes (but is not restricted to):
    • Coordinating the weekly 6pm Sunday regional youth Mass
    • Leading weekly high school youth group meetings
    • Leading monthly middle school youth ministry events
    • Recruiting local young adults to serve on the core team
    • Empowering young adults through regular core meetings
    • Coordinating multiple retreat opportunities for teens throughout the year (for example: Steubenville retreat, fall retreat, service retreat)
  • Be accessible during the week to provide opportunities and appropriate settings for conversation with area youth. Including, but not limited to:
  • Regular office hours
  • Visiting middle school and high school students at area schools
  • Attending extracurricular events and activities of the youth of each parish when possible
Communication Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain regular communication with both parishes regarding the youth ministry program by regularly meeting with pastoral leadership
  • Maintain close contact with students, parents, administrators, and campus ministers of the area high schools
  • Establish and maintain regular and appropriate communications with high school students and middle school youth, utilizing various means of communication


Fiscal Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, develop, and manage an annual budget
  • Account for all youth ministry expenses
  • Organize and manage fundraising while researching the availability of and apply for appropriate donations and grants in support of the youth ministry program

Basic Information on the Catholic communities in Washington, MO:

Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and St. Francis Borgia Parish serve the people of the City of Washington and together care for the Sacramental needs of approximately 2,400 families. Both parishes have K-8th grade schools with a combined enrollment of approximately 600 students. Both parishes have a PSR enrollment of about 150 students. Within the City of Washington, St. Francis Borgia High School (an Archdiocesan School) also serves the students of the City of Washington and currently has an enrollment of about 425 students.

Requirements

  • Be an active, committed, faith filled Roman Catholic with a regular habit of personal prayer
  • Possess a solid understanding of the Catholic Faith and adhere to all the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Be able to teach and share the Catholic Faith
  • Possess strong organizational skills
  • Have the skills needed to manage a budget
  • Be able to obtain the necessary safe environment training

Compensation

Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Francis Borgia Parishes offer a competitive salary based on years of experience and educational formation. In addition, we offer health insurance, dental insurance, and a retirement plan. The Youth Minister will have appropriate office space and all essential materials provided by the parishes.
