Ascension Catholic Church is a large parish with about 2850 families located

in Chesterfield, MO. Our parish grade school (K-8) has about 300 students

and our Parish School of Religion (PSR) has about 425 students. Our

mission is to love God, love others, and make disciples. Our vision is making

church matter by growing Ascension parishioners into disciples who in turn

invite others to the Catholic Church in Chesterfield and assisting other

Catholic Churches to do the same.

Ascension has a stable youth ministry program, which we would like to grow.

Our mission is to encourage Ascension teens to become personal disciples of

Jesus by participating fully in the life of His Body, the Church. Our vision for

youth ministry is a Christ-centered community forming Christ-centered teens.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This full-time (40 hours per week) position undertakes the challenge of

organizing and coordinating the youth ministry efforts of Ascension Catholic

Church. This position includes working hours during the day, evening, and

weekend. The primary focus is on our high school youth, but also includes

reaching out to the middle school. Additionally, the youth minister at

Ascension helps our college-aged parishioners maintain their relationship with

Jesus Christ during their breaks in the school year and over summer.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Be an active, committed, faith filled, confirmed, Roman Catholic

• Possess a solid understanding of the Catholic Faith and adhere to all

the teachings of the Catholic Church

• Be able to teach and share the Catholic faith

• Have leadership experience with youth

• Possess strong organizational skills

• Have the skills needed to manage a budget

• Have a college degree

• Have experience in youth ministry

• Must be able to lead a team of volunteers who assist in the ministry

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the youth, parents, pastor, associate(s), parish staff,

and core team to assess the existing programs and direct future youth

ministry programming

• Collaborate with the Archdiocesan Office of Youth Ministry to maintain

an awareness of Archdiocesan resources, programs and guidelines

• Coordinate and promote the Youth Ministry Program as a part of the

Ascension Catholic Church Family

• Recruit and train volunteers to assist the Youth Ministry Program

• Lead the volunteers who assist with the ministry

• Participate in professional development and continuing education

programs

• Maintain an ongoing knowledge of trends and resources in youth

ministry

• Invite, gather and lead the youth in regularly planned programs

• Coordinate youth volunteers and adult extraordinary ministers of Holy

Communion for the 5:30 pm Sunday Mass

• Manage our youth music minister who oversees the youth band

• Coordinate with Director of PSR to promote and execute Totus Tuus

Pastoral Responsibilities:

• Plan and execute Sunday night gatherings for high school teens after

the 5:30 pm Youth Mass

• Plan and oversee weekday gatherings

• Plan and execute twice monthly gatherings for middle schoolers

• Plan and execute annual Luke 18 Retreat

• Promote and execute an annual retreat for the teens

• Promote and chaperone an annual trip to Springfield Missouri, for the

Steubenville Youth Conference

• Promote and chaperone an annual trip to Washington DC for the March

for Life (through Generation Life)

• Plan and execute activities for college age parishioners when they are

on break during the school year and when they are home for the

summer

• Be accessible during the week to provide opportunities and appropriate

settings for the youth to visit for discussion of current events and/or

personal crises

Networking Responsibilities:

• Maintain close contact with students, parents, administrators, and

campus ministers of area high schools

• Establish and maintain regular and appropriate communications with

high school students and middle schoolers, utilizing various means of

communication (including website, Facebook, Instagram, and other

social media)

• Establish and maintain regular communication with the entire parish

regarding the youth ministry program

• Regularly attend Faith Formation Commission meetings

• Regularly attend staff meetings

• Maintain a high visibility in Ascension’s day school by spending time

with the middle school students at lunch, recess, and other activities

• Maintain a high visibility in the PSR program by regularly visiting middle

school classes

Fiscal Responsibilities

• Prepare, develop and manage an annual budget

• Account for all youth ministry revenue and expenses

• Organize and manage fundraising to support the youth programs

• Researching the availability of and applying for appropriate donations

and grants in support of the youth ministry program

Other duties and responsibilities are at the discretion of the pastor.

COMPENSATION: Ascension Catholic Church offers a competitive salary

based on years of experience and educational formation. In addition, we offer
