Van Driver

Organization: St. Matthew the Apostle (St. Louis)
Part Time

Position Summary

Provides transportation for parish by picking up passengers and ensure that they are transported to their destination in a safe manner. Manage transportation request in a time efficient manner and assist passengers. Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and recommend maintenance actions such as lubrication, cleaning, and filter changes. Inform parish of license registration requirements. Work may include refueling vehicle,cleaning, vacuuming, and securing vehicle.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Take orders from Parish Life Coordinator/Pastorak in to picking up passengers
  • Ensure attendance at the pace of pickup in a time efficient manner
  • Assist passengers in embarking and disembarking from the van, help elderly passengers by providing physical support
  • Map out route with the least amount of traffic and mileage.
  • Provides transportation for other occasions in support of the parish as needed
  • Drive van to the destination by following traffic rules and regulations
  • Cleans church van. Keep clean of trash and vacuums floors, washes windows and performs other cleaning activities as directed
  • Upon receipt of keys, check the van, licensing and insurance to make sure that all are in good working order
  • Collects and disposes of trash and garbage in the vehicle
  • Reports maintenance, and repair needs to supervisor
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies for vehicle as requested

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

  • Knowledge of and experience with transportation required
  • Knowledge of and experience with vehicle maintenance required
  • Knowledge and experience with assisting passengers that need additional help

Skills & Attitudes Required for Success in Job

  • General knowledge and support of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, Catholic rites and liturgies
  • Must have necessary mechanical skills and the ability to work safely with vehicle
  • Must have ability to perform outlined tasks with minimum supervision and be self-motivated
  • Must have good interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to tolerate varying temperatures and climate changes
  • Ability to drive vehicle and assist passengers.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule with possible evening and/or weekend hours
  • On-call availability for emergencies

Relationships Requirements

Must be able to work with Parish Life Coordinator,parishioners and other parish employees
