Staff Accountant

Position Summary:

This position is part of the Shared Administrative Services team and directly supports the parishes of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The Accountant is responsible for timely, accurate, and complete financial data for a group of assigned parishes in the North County and St. Charles areas.


Duties & Responsibilities:

•Processes and reviews payroll

•Prepares payroll tax filings, payments, and reports

•Prepares and files reports and payments for employee benefits

•Verifies bank deposits and cash receipts

•Reviews and reconciles tuition contracts and payments

•Reviews vouchers including coding and payment of outstanding invoices

•Prepares and records general ledger journal entries

•Reconciles monthly general ledger account balances as prescribed

•Prepares monthly financial statements as prescribed

•Prepares and monitors parish budgets as prescribed

•Meets with pastors and parish finance councils as needed

•Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications & Requirements:

•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

•Working knowledge of approved parish software (QuickBooks)

•One to three years related experience in general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and cash receipts

•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and government regulations

•Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from pastors, parish finance councils, and Shared Accounting Services Management

•Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages

•Working knowledge of the Internet, e-mail, Microsoft Word and Excel

•Willingness to support the mission and structure of the Catholic Church

•Willingness to work in a team environment

•Willingness to participate in continuing education in accounting and computer skills
