Job Title: High School Guidance Counselor
Reports To: Building Principal
Summary: The high school counselor is responsible for focusing on the academic, social/emotional, and career/vocational needs of all students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Be available to all students seeking guidance and counseling services.
Monitor academic progress for all students.
Effectively manage student behavior.
Help students establish goals and assist in development of self-assessment skills.
Counsel individual students and small groups to meet varied needs.
Communicate appropriately with students, parents, community, and staff.
Connect students, parents/guardians, and staff with specialized referral agencies.
Understand, evaluate, interpret, and share academic performance and standardized test data.
Assist in student scheduling.
Helps facilitate educational programs to students.
Coordinate and maintain student participation in off campus vocational technology programs.
Work collaboratively with other guidance counselors, faculty, and administrators to meet the needs of the student body.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
BS degree in counseling or related field
Valid Missouri counselor certificate for grades 9-12
Knowledge/experience working with appropriate counseling strategies
