St. Mary’s Special Services (SMSS) provides in-school speech language therapy to elementary school-aged students in North St. Louis County Catholic elementary schools. The purpose of the program is to provide early intervention services so that speech-language concerns can be identified and rectified during normal developmental benchmarks.

Our mission at St. Mary’s is to enable children with developmental delays and disabilities to experience success in life, according to their highest God-given potential and dignity.

The Executive Director of SMSS, a newly created position, will report to and work for the SMSS Board of Directors in oversight of the SMSS program. Specifically this involves:

  • Assisting with the implementation of the SMSS Strategic Plan goals and strategies
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and ongoing review of the annual operating budget
  • Fundraising and developing revenues in support of the SMSS mission
  • Overseeing and reporting the SMSS program progress and results to the Board and the United Way of Greater St. Louis
  • Developing a marketing plan and plan for expansion of services
  • Supervising and collaborating with the SMSS program staff
- Conducting bi-weekly meeting
- Conducting regular site visits and observations of program
- Evaluating staff performance
- Hiring/retaining qualified staff members

  • Collaborating with the Office of Catholic Education and Formation of the Archdiocese of St. Louis on schools served by SMSS
  • Collaborating with school site principals on program scheduling and program designated space
  • Other duties as assigned by the SMSS Board of Directors

Executive Director Qualifications / Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in either business management or marketing
  • Experience in early childhood development or related field
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning and program development
  • Strong financial management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, especially in communicating the organization’s mission to funders
  • Ability to travel to program sites
