St. Monica Catholic Church has an immediate opening for a Director of Religious Education.

Position Summary

  • Coordination and organization of the parish religious education program in the parish school and the catechism program.
  • Oversee and direct RCIA and RCIC.
  • Manage schedule and provide training to servers, and lectors

Duties & Responsibilities: (To include, but not limited to)

• Be a liturgical resource for the teachers: provide liturgical formation, provide resources for Mass and for teaching, coordinate the planning of school Masses. Give guidance to the musicians for schools Masses.

•Oversee the coordinator of catechism class and give guidance to the teachers.

•Coordinate seasonal religious activities in the school and catechism program.

•Prepare packets for sacramental prep (Confession, First Communion, Confirmation).

•Collect required forms and information for sacramental prep.

•Make schedule of RCIA and RCIC (class dates, speakers, topics, and due dates for paperwork)

•Calls/interviews prospective candidates

•Orders teaching material

•Organizes the rites

•Oversees writing of letter to chancellor for faculties for pastor to confirm

•Gathers sacramental records for parish sacramental books

•Meet with each candidate periodically to assess progress

•Give liturgical training at least once a year to all lectors and Extraordinary Ministers

•Manage calendars of lectors and servers

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

•Bachelors in Theology/Religious Education or a related educational field and/or a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning.

•Proven participation and continuing updating of the Virtus Safe Environment Program sponsored through the diocese.

Skills & Attitudes Required for Success in Job

Demonstrate capability to carry out administrative and supervisory duties in a timely fashion, utilizing good communication and relationship skills.

•Participate in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current on trends in catechetical ministry.
