Director of Parish Accounting Services Summary:

The Director of Parish Accounting Services is part of the CFO’s leadership team with responsibilities focused on directly supporting approximately 180 parishes across the Archdiocese. This role is responsible for directing and supervising the Shared Accounting Services (SAS) and Parish Support teams within the Archdiocese.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to the pastor, parish staff and the Finance council within a parish.
  • Responsible for overseeing, evaluating, and developing the SAS and Parish Support managers.
  • Overall responsibility for hiring, training, and daily supervision of a mission-focused staff dedicated to serving the needs of our parishes/schools across both areas above.
  • Oversees all aspects of the accounting and financial reporting process for parishes utilizing Shared Accounting Services, and ensures compliance with the Financial Management and Control Manual published by the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
  • Ensures quality and consistency of service to parishes in SAS and equitable billing of those services.
  • Provides and oversees all training for parish secretaries and business managers in the areas of QuickBooks, Servant Keeper, Publisher, PHOL and other various programs as assigned.
  • Oversees resources that provide direct help to parishes in times of need (i.e. temporary service to help the pastor manage the parish during employee leaves/turnover).
  • Sets overall vision and goals for the department.
  • Directly supports pastors by developing analysis and reporting necessary for the good stewardship of the parish and sound financial decision-making.
  • Develops policies and procedures that encourage consistency and best practices amongst the parishes as well as internally among staff.
  • Collaborates to identify other administrative services that would assist the operations of the parishes.
  • Actively participates in parish and deanery meetings as needed.
  • Supports the Chief Financial Officer by providing consolidated financial reporting and financial planning and analysis across the Archdiocese, and other analytical duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required. CPA / MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity is required. Experience in a not-for-profit environment is a plus.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar software.

  • Leadership ability for enhancing and growing the department.
  • Ability to read and understand financial statements and effectively communicate results and present analysis to parishes and Archdiocesan leadership.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • High degree of customer service orientation.

Relationship Requirements:

  • Relationships must be built and maintained with pastors, parish councils, committees, advisory committees, Vicars General, and members.
  • Effective communication will require periodic phone calls, emails, and personal visits. Attendance at parish council meetings, when needed, may require meetings outside of normal business hours.
