Saint Martha’s Hall, guided by the social justice teachings of Jesus Christ, helps abused women and their children break the cycle of violence in their lives. St. Martha’s Hall offers an immediate, confidential safe place for women who are abused and their children to live.
St. Martha’s Hall is seeking a full-time Children’s Advocate. Responsibilities include: Conduct children’s intakes and develop family goals. Assist in school enrollment and transportation. Facilitate twice weekly support groups for children ages 9+,weekly parenting support group and self-care group for women. Two evenings a week will be required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Social Work, Child Development, Education or a related field. Knowledge of developmental milestones, play therapy, emotional regulation, parenting discipline strategies and the dynamics of violence against women and children. Good written and verbal skills. Ability to prioritize tasks. Must have car and driver’s license, and be 21 years of age.
ATTITUDES FOR SUCCESS IN POSITION:
Collaborate with Children’s Program Coordinator to implement and provide therapeutic services. Ability to gain the confidence of and establish good relationships with women and children. Ability to demonstrate empathy and be flexible with a variety of clients under stressful situations. Ability to connect with other agencies to coordinate services for women and their children who experience abuse.
