Asbestos Abatement

The federal government has developed several laws and regulations governing the use of asbestos and aimed at protecting human health. In 1986 the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) was signed into law as Title II of the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA). In 1990 Congress passed the Asbestos School Hazard Abatement Reauthorization Act (ASHARA), requiring accreditation of personnel working on asbestos activities in schools and in public and commercial buildings.

To comply with federal regulations, the Archdiocese of St. Louis requires all parish and school facilities to file an updated Asbestos Periodic Surveillance Sheet in the Spring and Fall of each year. Individual facilities must keep the completed forms on file in their management plan and forward a completed form to:
