Shelter seeks items

Room at the Inn is seeking clothes, backpacks and school materials for the children of its clients. Also sought is toilet paper and paper towels. Sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence, Room at the Inn provides emergency shelter and a support system to women and families in need in St. Louis County, using an interfaith effort of congregations and organizations. Jesuit ministries in Belize

Belize 2020, An Ignatian Partnership, will hold a gathering featuring Jesuit Father Matthew Ruhl, pastor of St. Martin de Porres Parish in Belize City, Belize, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Schlafly Tap Room, Second Floor, 2100 Locust St. in Downtown St. Louis. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. Belize 2020 is a group of volunteers in the United States and Belize supporting Jesuit ministries in Belize. Father Ruhl will speak about its mission, accomplishments and ways to be involved. A special invitation is being made to young professionals. For more information, visit www.Belize2020.org.

Shroud of Turin

A workshop on the Shroud of Turin will be presented from 5:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Kenrick-Glennon Seminary auditorium. Mark Antonacci, author of "Test the Shroud: At the Atomic and Molecular Levels," and Father John Nickolai, associate pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Imperial, will be the keynote speakers. The workshop is hosted by the Institute for Theological Encounter with Science and Technology and the archdiocesan Office of Worship.

Naming and Commendation

A Mass including the Rite of Naming and Commendation for an Infant Who Has Died Before Birth will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at St. Peter Church, 221 First Capitol Drive in St. Charles. The special rite memorializes children who have died before birth, including miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion or accident. Commemoration

The Archdiocese of St. Louis and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will host a Lutheran-Catholic Joint Commemoration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis on Sunday, Oct. 29, with an ecumenical prayer service at 7 p.m. Also as part of the commemoration, a panel discussion will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at the Aquinas Institute of Theology, 23 S. Spring Ave. in Midtown St. Louis. Both these events will be led by bishops from the national Lutheran-Catholic dialogue. Migration

A "Catholic Teach-In on Migration: Creating a Culture of Encounter" will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at St. Cletus Parish Hall, 2705 Zumbehl Road in St. Charles. Invited are people of goodwill with an interest in social justice and who are open to learning from others' experiences and the Church's teaching on the rights of refugees and asylum seekers. Celebrity waiters

St. Louis community leaders, entrepreneurs, entertainers and philanthropists will serve a gourmet three-course meal to guests at the Archbishop Robert J. Carlson Department of Special Education's annual "A Celebrity Waiter Event" at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Cardinal Rigali Center, 20 Archbishop May Drive in Shrewsbury.
