76 in 40 days

St. Patrick Center's recent 40 in 40 Housing Challenge resulted in the end of homelessness for 76 clients and their families. The initiative sought to move 40 clients and their families into housing over a 40-day period. Donations included items for 19 move-in kits, 61 new mattresses and bed frames and $5,600 to purchase furniture vouchers in partnership with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. St. Patrick Center and Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, along with multiple partner agencies in the St. Louis City and County Continua of Care collaborated to move the clients into homes.

Scholarships

Chaminade College Preparatory School's 17th Annual Scholarship Luncheon was held in the Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Life Center where almost 150 Chaminade students and their benefactors got acquainted over lunch and dessert. The endowed scholarship program at Chaminade distributed $396,698 this year, and more than $400,000 is to be awarded for next year. Nearly 42 percent of Chaminade students receive financial assistance. Many of Chaminade's endowed scholarships have been established by alumni. Several new scholarships were awarded to students in the upcoming academic year including the 2nd Lt. Samuel Anderson Diehl '11 Scholarship and the Lt. Col. James J. Hackett '49 Memorial Scholarship honoring the two men who died this year.

Evans concert

Blues, jazz and soul musician Marsha Evans will be in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, in the chapel at St. Vincent Home for Children, 401 Florissant Road in Normandy. Sponsored by the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation, The Chapel Concerts at St. Vincent Home for Children showcase the home's historic chapel and connect St. Vincent and the surrounding community. Retreat with the Carmelites

The Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus are hosting a retreat May 25-28 for single Catholic women, ages 17-29, who are considering the religious life. The retreat will include talks by the sisters on discernment, religious life and Carmelite spirituality, as well as prayers and recreation with the sisters, time to talk with other young women discerning God's call, and an opportunity for silence and solitude, all within the framework of a monastic horarium. Family retreat and vacation

The annual Missouri Holy Family Fest — Focus: Splendor of the Truth by St. Pope John Paul — will be held Thursday to Sunday, Aug. 10-13, at Eagle Hurst Ranch near Steelville. Sponsored by the Apostolate For Family Consecration, the fest features daily Masses, Rosaries, Chaplets of Divine Mercy and adoration. Father James Wasser, Missionaries of the Holy Family, will be the camp priest, and Jamie Garza of TNCE Productions (The New Catholic Evangelization ) will be there for the youth. Pilgrimage of Trust

The St. Louis Pilgrimage of Trust will be held the weekend of May 26-29 at St. Louis University. It is the culmination of a year long effort to build trust in the St. Louis area. Each day's events will include common prayer in the style of the Taizé community (morning, afternoon and evening) and will offer workshops on prayer, beauty and social justice. The highlight of the weekend will be a Walk of Trust at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 28. Registration is $45 and includes three meals. Irish gala

Volunteers are needed for the 33rd annual Irish Open Gala and Golf Tournament to benefit St. Patrick Center. The volunteers are needed for the gala on Saturday, June 3, at Grand Hall at Union Station to assist with registration, raffle sales and the silent and live auctions. MORE vocations

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet's vocation team will host a MORE (Ministry, One with God and Neighbor, Reflection and Prayer and Engagement) Weekend June 9-11 at the Sisters motherhouse in south St. Louis. The weekend is for women interested in religious life to share time in community, prayer and volunteer ministry with the sisters. High school coaches

A free professional development program for high school coaches will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at Ursuline Academy, 341 South Sappington Road in Oakland. The tentative schedule includes breakout sessions on conflict resolution, developing team captains, technology and sports, injury awareness, nutrition, developing a sports leadership program, why students play and more. The program is expected to feature Molly Grisham, who has been a club, high school and college soccer coach, and a panel of college administrators. Sisters Sunshine Gala

Author and retreat director Paul Coutinho will be the guest speaker at the Sisters Sunshine Gala benefiting the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Saturday, July 29, at the National Shrine Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Ill. The gala will feature a $3,000-grand-prize reverse raffle, a dinner buffet, the sisters' bakery items and produce from their demonstration farm in De Soto. For information, visit www.fsolph.org.
