St. Gabriel School makes a difference

St. Gabriel the Archangel School parents and students participated in the school’s first Make a Difference Day on Saturday, Oct. 22. Parents and students volunteered in many ways including packaging food at the St. Louis Food Bank, painting at the Claver House, cleaning the church sanctuary, preparing Halloween treat bags at Sweet Celebrations, and painting pillowcases and making candy bags for It’s Your Birthday. The school’s theme this year is “Created to Make a Difference,” based on Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Collection for military archdiocese

A collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services will take place Nov. 13 in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The AMS is responsible for providing the same pastoral care and services readily available in every other U.S. Catholic diocese for the men and women who serve in all six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, are enrolled in a U.S. Military Academy, are undergoing treatment at any of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, or who work in civilian jobs for the federal government overseas — and for their families. Donations are also accepted online at milarch.org/nationalcollection.

Young family speaker series

The next installment of the young families speaker series at St. Peter Parish in Kirkwood will be 6:30-7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the school cafeteria. Becca and Scott McCullough and Terry Ostlund will speak about “Catholic Home Environment: Rituals and Celebrations,” how to support your child’s joyful exploration and identity in faith. Light refreshments will be provided. To RSVP, contact [email protected].

Black Catholic History Month Celebration

The St. Charles Lwanga Center will host “The Black Church,” a PBS presentation and discussion hosted by Henry Lewis Gates Jr. during Black Catholic History Month in November. The presentation will take place on Zoom at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20. RSVPs are required by 1 p.m. the day of the event by emailing [email protected]. Participants will receive an email containing the Zoom link and additional details.
