Prayer for Vocations
Father in Heaven, we give you thanks for sending your Son Jesus Christ, into the world to be our Lord, Savior and High Priest. We believe that, in the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus won for us the gift of eternal life by His Sacrifice on the Cross. We believe that Jesus renews this Sacrifice in the Holy Eucharist, through the ministry of His priests.
Father, we earnestly beseech you to raise up holy priests in your Church. Grant young men the strength to accept generously the call to the priesthood. May they joyfully give their lives so that all your people can receive your holy Word and Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist, the great gift of the Body and Blood of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Savior and High Priest, in whose name we make our prayer. Amen.

St. John Vianney
John Vianney grew up in France during the French Revolution. His parents were ordinary farmers who taught him the value of hard work, prayer, humility and charity. From a very early age, John was blessed with a great love for God. He worked many long hours in the fields of the family farm and prayer was a constant part of his day. His parents were generous people, sharing what little they had with others. No beggar was ever turned away from his home.
Please pray for the intercession of St. John Vianney for all priests, and for an increase of vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life within the Archdiocese of St. Louis and all over the world.

Annual Fisher of Men Award
The Fisher of Men Award is recognition for priests, within the Archdiocese of St. Louis who, by word and example, foster a culture of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The term "fishers of men" comes from the fourth chapter of Matthew, when Jesus called to fishermen Simon Peter and his brother Andrew and said, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." Parishioners are asked to nominate their pastors or other priests they consider worthy of this award, who through prayer and practice has fostered a genuine "Culture of Vocations" in his priestly ministry; inspiring young men and women to follow Christ in the priesthood and religious life.

What is a Vocation Committee?
A Parish Vocation Committee is a group of men and/or women dedicated in creating a culture of vocations in the parish environment. The group is willing to devote time, talent and energy to help other parishioners come to a better understanding about vocations within our church today.
A Vocation Committee helps to assure that the parish community remains vibrant through prayer, study and planned activities that is conducive to fostering vocations. This committee also serves as the connecting link with the Office of Vocations regarding the progress and activity of the parish vocation committee, engaging in on-going dialogue about how the office can be of assistance – raising questions, concerns and issues for discussion. This committee must have the support and approval of the pastor and pastoral staff. We hope the Parish Vocation Committee Guidelines will be a helpful resource to you and the priests in your parish. Thank you for your devotion to the Church and your willingness to prayerfully guide your parish in establishing a culture of vocations.
