In a year of “firsts,” St. Louis Catholic Academy proudly sponsored the school’s first-ever class trip.  The eighth graders traveled to Memphis, Tennessee and experienced the culture and history of that great river city.  Highlights included trips to the Burkle Estate (used in the Underground Railroad), the National Civil Rights Museum, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Beale Street, Mud Island and the Memphis Zoo (one of only four places in the Western Hemisphere where pandas can be seen).  It was a fun and educational trip, and Catholic Academy is proud of the Class of 2009 for establishing a new school tradition.

Read, Right, & Run is a program our school participated in through spring 2009. The idea behind the program was to engage children in reading, as well as performing good deeds for the community and promoting healthy lifestyles. This was a great opportunity for our school to promote healthy lifestyles through reading, “righting” the community, and running.

Featured Student Work:
"Expressing Myself"
By Kendall Goodwin

People can see me as a non-vigilant guy
On the inside I can be proficient when I do a lot of things
When I get older I'm goin to keep spreading my wings
I know I've got a lot of manners
But I'm going to be on television like college teams on
banners
When I feel wrath, I try to cool down
But I am gong to act like a king and wear a crown
I never perjury to questions and talking to people
I just lost a cousin prior last year
I always think about him and have no fear
At night, I'm never afraid of the dark
But I'm a ballplayer just ask John Sparks

"Sloths"
By Ariel Davis

Do sloths like to go really slow?
If they speed up
Would they really know?
Would they go fast
To chase butterflies in the air?
Or would they just
Stop and stare?

Dr. Martin Luther King

Dr. Martin Luther King had a very big dream

That whites and blacks will get along use words against each other in a very nice tone

He had a dream not to be racist not to judge them by tge color of their faces.

Dr. King had a dream to treat each other fair, back then you would see that very very rare

He had a dream for them to hold hands and to be each others fans

They march down the street just like marching bands

They used to sing "We Shall Overcome"

Rev. Martin if he was here he would probably be walking on a cane and smart like Barack Hussain

He was a preacher He had a choir like we sing

That's why you should always love Dr. Martin Luther King!

Featured student work for the week of October 20, 2008:

"Spirit Week"
By: Alan Bolden

Spirit week is unique
It's a time to show proud-ness
With lots of stompin and loudness
It's a time to praise the Lord
Trust me you'll never get bored.
You will have fun
And maybe play a game
You will be glad that you came.
You can show your pride is true,
If you paint your face white and blue.
It comes only once a year.
Stop wasting time
Have fun and cheer.

"Dream Child"
By Nia Brown

Sleep child
Let your dreams come to you
Sleep peacefully I pray your dreams come true

Draw child
What you draw is how you feel
Don't let people stop you
Your wonderful pictures are real

Write child
Let your imagination run free
Creat your poems and stories
You write what you see

Dance child
It's what you love
You were meant to dance
It's a gift from above

Play child
It's been your dream
Play hard always and be part of a team

Sing child
It's who you are
Sing your heart out
One day it will make you a star
