Obituary | Sr. Teresa Riley, OSU

Sr. Riley
Sister Teresa Riley, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Nov. 24, 2020, at Mount Saint Joseph in Maple Mount, Kentucky, in her 65th year of religious life. Sister Teresa, 84, was a native of Mayfield, Kentucky.

She taught at Seven Holy Founders School in Affton from 1969-76. She also served throughout Kentucky.

At a parish in Benton, Kentucky, she was known for her outreach to people in need. Ursuline Sister Mary Jude Cecil, who lived 20 miles away in Paducah, called her an example of St. Angela Merici. “She has such a sense for the needs of others. She’s such a good listener, very affirming, gentle, and thoughtful. She’s very loved by her parishioners and her pastor,” Sister Mary Jude said. “She’s very accepting of people. She would never think of turning away a stranger.”

Others called her an embodiment of humility, hard work and love.

Survivors include two sisters, Margie Brittain of Stanford, Kentucky, and Ruth Dickens of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Joseph Riley and James Riley, both of Mayfield.

In compliance with health and public safety directives, the funeral and wake service at Mount St. Joseph will be private.
