The funeral Mass for Dominican Sister Mary Katherine “Mary Kay” Connell was celebrated April 1 at the Dominican motherhouse in Sinsinawa, Wis. Sister Mary Kay died March 29 at St. Dominic Villa in Hazel Green, Wis. She was 79 and was a woman religious for 59 years.
Born in 1939 in Detroit, she was the daughter of John and Ethel (Klee) Connell. She made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1959, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1964. She taught for 14 years and served as pastoral minister for 14 years, guidance counselor for two years and as support service staff for four years. Sister Mary Kay ministered with youth care facility programs for nine years. She served in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Texas and Missouri.
In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Sister Mary Kay served the members of St. Mary Parish in St. Louis, 1995-97; and ministered as a receptionist at Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, 1997-2000.
Burial was in the Motherhouse Cemetery in Sinsinawa.
