Obituary | Sr. Karen Langhi, CSJ

Sr. Langhi
Sister Karen Langhi, a retired high school teacher in St. Louis, died April 24 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis at age 80.

Born in Evanston, Illinois, she was received into the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1958 as Sister Stephen Marie. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Latin/history/theology from Fontbonne College in 1962, a master’s degree in Latin and classical studies from Loyola University-Chicago in 1972 and a master’s degree in pastoral liturgy from Santa Clara University in 1990.

In 1962, Sister Karen began teaching junior high students in Kansas City, Missouri, before teaching at a high school in Denver for three years. Sister Karen then taught at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florissant for 18 years.

In 1984, she left education for parish ministry, directing both liturgy and RCIA at parishes in California.

Returning to St. Louis in 2003, Sister Karen tutored in Latin for a little more than a year before teaching a semester at Cor Jesu Academy and then at Ursuline Academy from 2004-09. She retired in 2009.

Sister Karen’s favorite hobby was to travel. She served as a volunteer until moving to Nazareth Living Center in 2018.

Survivors include two sisters, Joan Langhi of Dallas and Judy McNamara of Fort Worth, and a brother, Steve Langhi of Dallas. Funeral arrangements are pending.
