Obituary | Deacon Thomas ‘Jerry’ Politte

Dcn. Politte
A memorial Mass was held May 28 at St. David Parish in Arnold for Deacon Thomas ‘Jerry’ Politte, who served at St. David Parish for nearly 25 years. Deacon Politte died May 22.

Deacon Politte, 76, was born on Nov. 29, 1942, in Cadet, Mo. He married Valeria Politte (nee Stephan) on Aug. 14, 1965. They had four children, Thomas, Christine, Robert and Paul; along with fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Jerry retired from the Chrysler Plant in Fenton.

Deacon Politte was ordained to the Sacred Order of the Diaconate on June 11, 1994, by then-Archbishop Justin Rigali. After ordination, he was assigned to the St. David where he served until his death.

Prior to his retirement, in addition to his performance of the sacramental functions of a deacon, specifically assisting at Mass, conducting wake services and attending funerals, leading Liturgy of the Word and Communion Services when needed at the parish and in nursing homes, performing baptisms, conducting benedictions and leading Stations of the Cross, Deacon Politte worked in various sacramental preparation programs, held a certificate as a PSR instructor, and served as a PSR coordinator and coordinator of Religious Education for the parish along with outreach to the poor and the homebound.

Interment was at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
