Obituary | Deacon David Amelotti

A funeral Mass for Deacon David Amelotti was celebrated June 26 at Our Lady of Providence Church in Crestwood.

Deacon Amelotti, age 68, died June 22. A graduate of St. Louis Prep Seminary South class of 1971, he attended Cardinal Glennon College and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. For more than 25 years he owned a St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper route in Chesterfield. He later owned and operated the Sunset Hills and Gravois Bluffs IHOP restaurants. For the past five years, he worked at Straub’s Markets in Clayton.

Deacon Amelotti was ordained a deacon in 1999 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis by Cardinal Justin Rigali. He was assigned to assist the pastor at Our Lady of Providence Parish. Deacon Amelotti also had an additional assignment assisting the chaplain at St. Mary’s Health Center.

He served his parish by presiding at baptisms, funeral services and weddings. He also led RCIA classes, marriage and baptism preparation and annulment advisory consults, visited nursing homes and made Communion calls to people who are homebound. He was involved with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Sts. Peter and Paul Food Pantry. Deacon Amelotti also served on the parish council and the committee for Boy Scout troop 645.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Amelotti; two children, David Patrick and Meredith Anne Amelotti; and three siblings, Charles Amelotti, Elaine Weber and Robert Amelotti.
