Msgr. Francis Blood and Bishop Maurus Muldoon
It is not everyday that the Mission Office receives a Bishop as a visiting missionary. Today, June 6th, was such a day. His Excellency, Most Reverend Maurus Muldoon, O.F.M., a native of Boston, Massachusetts, and since 1983 the Bishop of the Diocese of Julticalpa, Honduras, visited us at the Mission Office.
Bishop Muldoon is conducting appeals in the archdiocese of Saint Louis this summer, thanks to his being included in the Missionary Cooperation Appeal Plan that operates under the auspices of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Bishop Muldoon is appealing for funds to build a hospital in his diocese. For many years, there have been surgical teams from Saint Louis that have performed surgery in Juticalpas. The need for an adequate hospital is urgent, so that residents of Honduras may receive better medical care than is presently possible. There are a number of doctors who belong to Immacolata Parish and Our Lady of the Pillar Parish, who participate in medical missions in the Diocese of Juticalpa, Honduras.
Bishop Muldoon praised the work of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, and the opportunity to preach these mission appeals for the first time this year in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. He will also be visiting the diocese of Fort Worth, Texas and the Archdiocese of Boston and Fall River for similar appeals this summer. Without such opportunities, raising the necessary funds in Honduras for a Catholic hospital would be much more difficult.
Bishop Maurus Muldoon and Mission Office Staff: Linda Dalton, Connie Heckstetter, Sue Spavale, and Colleen Coughlin
Bishop Muldoon is an inspiration and has been a missionary in Honduras since his ordination in 1964. Prior to his departure from the Mission Office, he prayed with our staff and imparted his apostolic blessing.
It is a joy for us to meet such outstanding missionaries as Bishop Maurus Muldoon, O.F.M. Please be generous to visiting missionaries through the Missionary Cooperation Appeal Plan.
