Bienvenidos de San Salvador! Everything is going very well here. We arrived on Sunday successfully. We are staying with a friendly Salvadoran family in la Colonia Miravalle, a small neighborhood close to the national university. During the day, I attend class at the Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad. It is a one on one Spanish class with a former Jesuit seminarian and we discuss topics ranging from the political climate to the religious tendencies of Salvadoran students.
While I study, Andy travels to various clinics and hospitals with Salvadoran doctors and participates in the care of patients. In the afternoons, we take various field trips to Salvadoran cultural and historical sites like the University of Central America, where the six Jesuits were assasinated in 1989. It is a bit overwhelming, but we are learning, experiencing and taking in everything around us.
