FATHER EDWARD CHARLES VISITS FROM SIERRA LEONEFather Edward Charles, a priest of the Diocese of Kenema in Sierra Leone, Africa, visited the Mission Office in August 2007. Father Charles serves as the Rector of St. Paul’s Seminary for the Archdiocese of Freetown, Sierra Leone. Sister Andre Aubuchon, SSND, accompanied Father Charles on his visit. Sister Andre had taught Father Charles in Africa several years back, when she was a missionary serving there. The two reconnected in recent years and have since worked on several projects together, including their most recent fundraising efforts for St. Paul’s Seminary. The Mission Office is currently considering inclusion of the Archdiocese of Freetown in a future Missionary Plan of Cooperation, as it seeks support for St. Paul’s Seminary.
Sierra Leone is located in western Africa and is on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It is home to 6.1 million people, of which approximately 30 percent are Christian. The Archdiocese of Freetown was established in 1858 as the Vicariate Apostolic of Sierra Leone, and was later elevated to an Archdiocese in 1950.
The Mission Office thanks Father Charles and Sister Andre for visiting, and looks forward to staying connected as they work to support St. Paul’s Seminary in the Archdiocese of Freetown, Sierra Leone!
