Mission Statement

The Human Rights Office of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, continuing the mission of Jesus Christ, seeks to educate, advocate and evangelize according to the social teachings of the Church, as articulated by the Holy Father and through the specific instructions of the Archbishop of St. Louis.

Features

The Archdiocesan Commission on Human Rights was established in 1963 by Joseph Cardinal Ritter to make clear the position of the church in St. Louis on the matter of race relations.

Monsignor John A. Shocklee broadened the Commission on Human Rights' scope of activities, just as the Church broadened its understanding of the social justice mission.
