New Online Resources from the Media Center

The Religious Education Media Center recently produced the 2010 Catalog in PDF format for download, located on the Archdiocesan website following the links: Education – Catholic Education Office – Religious Education Media Center. On this website you will find the 2010 Media Catalog listing the more than 4000 individual media titles divided into books for Primary, Intermediate, Junior High, High School and Adult Levels. Each book, once downloaded, can be extensively searched by titles, themes, descriptions, presenters, series, key-words, etc., and is hyperlinked to book online through the Web Media Catalogue (WMC).

In addition, the Media Center for Religious Education has produced a Pocket Guide for elementary teachers, which is a media supplement to the elementary religion curriculum standard. It is also available for download online on the Archdiocesan website in PDF format. This companion guide synthesizes themes that correlate with the content and goals for each grade level. Carefully produced catechetical media engage students through visuals, song, narration and instruction, developing and reinforcing the foundation and principles of our faith in Jesus Christ and His Church.

This most vital component must be incorporated into all curricular areas, to make Jesus the heart of what we teach. The Pocket Guide can stimulate a deeper interest in connecting every subject with our Catholic Faith, by suggesting themes appropriate to each age level, which can be incorporated into the arts and sciences, as well as religious education. It is not an exhaustive list, but a jumpstart, which teachers can develop in many creative ways, to nurture the minds and souls of every child in Catholic Education.
