“The definitive aim of Catechesis is to put people not only in touch, but also in communion and intimacy, with Jesus Christ.” (Catechesi Tradendae 5) On behalf of the Catholic education community of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, I would like to welcome you to our website. As you will learn while you go through the site, Catholic education has a long, proud tradition in this Archdiocese. Ours is the oldest and largest system of schools in the state, and the seventh largest archdiocesan school system in the country. The percentage of Catholic families who choose Catholic schools for their children here is among the highest in the country, with about 50,000 students enrolled in our Catholic elementary and high schools. In addition to the students enrolled in Catholic schools, there are 21,000 students in parish schools of religion programs and 6,000 adults in parish faith formation programs. George J. We are blessed in this Archdiocese to have so many individuals who have made strong commitments to Catholic education and its mission of teaching the message of Jesus Christ. From Archbishop Raymond Burke, who from his first days in the Archdiocese has pledged his total commitment to Catholic education, to immigrant parents who struggle and sacrifice to make sure their child gets off to the best possible start in their new country, the Catholic education community is united in the belief that every child is a gift, and every child deserves a Catholic education. The mission of our office is to offer leadership and service to all of those involved in the ministry of Catholic education.
