ARCHBISHOP CARLSON ANNOUNCES HISTORIC RESULTS OF ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL

ARCHBISHOP CARLSON ANNOUNCES HISTORIC RESULTS OF ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL

Catholics in the Archdiocese of St. Louis continue to support the corporal works of the local Church
ST. LOUIS – Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson, Archbishop of St. Louis, announced Thursday the results of the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) which raised more than $15 million for the second time ever, and for the second year in a row. Total pledges to the 2018 Appeal amount to $15.4 million – the highest total in the Appeal’s history. Anticipated estate and corporate matching gifts will add to the total. Mr. Thomas Heeger, retired chairman and CEO of ACME Constructors, was the chair of the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal.

The results show continued support among Catholics for the Archdiocese of St. Louis and its ministries. The 2018 total exceeds the $14.2 million overall goal, and reflects the generosity of many Catholics in more than 47,000 households who gave their time, talent, and treasure to support the charitable and educational work of the archdiocese. Funds raised over the goal will be used to support Catholic Charities, Catholic education, and parish life, and other important ministries.

Archbishop Carlson expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed.

“Thank You! Your gifts to the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal will make works of charity possible across the Archdiocese of St. Louis and beyond. Your generosity will help ensure that the story of the Church in our archdiocese is one of love and mercy. I am grateful for your support, and I am praying for you.”

“I am grateful to the pastors, the parish chairs, and volunteers who have worked diligently on this Appeal these past few months," said Brian Niebrugge, Executive Director of Stewardship and the Annual Catholic Appeal. “Many people turn to the Church in their time of need. Because many faithful families and individuals have generously shared their gifts, the works of the local Church will continue and lives will continue to be impacted.”

Each spring, the ACA asks Catholics in nearly 200 parishes across the archdiocese to make pledges to support programs, organizations, and ministries for people of all faith traditions. Spanning ten counties and the City of St. Louis, these programs assist the homeless and hungry, provide pro-life resources, support women and their children, and fund Catholic education and family counseling, among other charitable works. All of the money raised each year through the Annual Catholic Appeal is distributed to the various programs, parishes, organizations, and ministries that carry out the important work of the Church.

More information on the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal is available at archstl.org/aca .
